Posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic event like combat exposure, sexual/physical assault, or a natural disaster. Symptoms may include reliving the event, avoiding situations that remind you of the event and negative changes in beliefs and feelings. In 2010, Congress deemed June 27th PTSD Awareness Day. In 2014, the U.S. Senate designated the full month of June for National PTSD Awareness.
